INCOGNITO

Vocals / Keyboards / Bass / Drums / Guitar / Saxophone

An acid jazz project with deep roots in the 1970s jazz/funk/soul world, Incognito was formed by Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick and Paul “Tubbs” Williams in 1979. Both were the original members of the disco-funk group Light of the World. Throughout the time that they worked on other projects they also met at Bluey’s house to play music, and they decided to take a couple of their home made jams into the studio. So they shifted Light of the World’s lineup slightly and renamed the conglomeration “Incognito”. The first LP was released in 1981, but during the rest of the 1980s Incognito were inactive. Maunick continued to write material for his group, while working with artists such as Maxi Priest, and Tubbs went on to work with George Michael and others, but later moved to the Netherlands. In 1991, Incognito appeared on the scene again with the single “Always There”, which became a Top Ten hit. One year later, Maunick added vocalist Maysa Leak to the lineup. Ever since, the group recorded at a steady rate and stuck to their colorful hybrid sound, while the lineup kept varying.
